Computer Science, University Of California, San Diego I was hoping that good news would come from all the waiting. However, I could not have been more wrong, and it blows; UCSD is my dream school. Moreover, I am a recently separated US Navy veteran who worked in cryptology for close to 4 years. I have no published papers and did not go to a top university; however, I had three strong letters of recommendation, a strong SOP, a solid GPA, immense drive, dedication, and proven work experience, which I hoped would lead to acceptance. But, in the end, it wasn't enough. (Although I am very happy for all those who were accepted and hope all the hard work pays off!) P.S. While looking over the UCSD website and after contacting them about the university's demographics out of pure curiosity, I am unsure if they actually consider and or accept veterans. Additionally, when I asked how many actual veterans (those who served, not family members) attend, they said they do not have the information to give. So, if you're a veteran and find yourself curious about the inclusivity of this university, keep this in mind: you might not be as important of a consideration as others, and apparently, you have to be okay with it.

Physics, New York University Physics & mathematics double major with 5 years of continuous research experience (starting 1 year prior to entering college), two REUs, one non-REU summer research program, one summer school in high-energy theory, and one summer school in mathematics (participated in two programs over some summers). One first-author publication, another in writing, and one poster presentation at an undergraduate research symposium. Three years as a teaching assistant for introductory physics courses, and one semester as a teaching assistant for vector calculus. Wrote and/or significantly contributed to a few pieces of open-source software widely used in the field. Rejected by all 20 schools I applied to this year, and finding it incredibly hard to get a job with a physics/math degree.

Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University - Fort Collins Was emailed by one of the researchers because their first option fell through to see if I was still interested in joining their group. Seems I was on a waitlist as I was not previously notified of any acceptance or rejection. Already accepted another school though. Good luck to all

Statistics, Texas A&M University - College Station (TAMU) No GRE was submitted. The director was contacted at first and then the official decision arrived a few hours later. No changes in the application portal. For the prospective students: What I noticed was, that most international students may be getting offers in the first 2-3 weeks of April. So keep grinding and have a little faith. Good luck y'all...

Creative Writing Fiction, University Of California, Irvine 0a/1w/9r/3p.... it's looking bleak y'all. doesn't hurt bc i was expecting this one, but also kind of hurts bc it was one of my top choices :') but i've still got 3 left to hear from including my dream school. wishing everyone luck and congrats to all who got in :)

Mechanical Engineering, UCLA Interviewed in January and the professor already told me that he wouldn't have any openings this year weeks ago, it was expected. If you did not graduate from the USA or best universities, people are not so interested in investing in you and expect you to have your own funding for the first year, particularly for the top universities. I already have a good offer and accepted it. To whoever reading this: rejection is not all about you but the system, funding, and openings. Never let any rejection define you! We are living in a world where drop-outs rule. It's all about shaping your own ideas and making them true. Statistics, University Of Pennsylvania Generic rejection, the odds were not in my favor. No research experience or publications. Currently employed full time as a statistician - might pursue a masters degree instead. Congrats to all who’ve been waitlisted and/or accepted!

Culture And Performance, University Of California Los Angeles had an interview back in january and had almost lost hope. no email yet, just happened to check portal. 1a/0w/9r/0p. this was my third choice! so happy!!! congrats to all.

East Asian Studies, University Of Oregon During the period between my undergraduate studies and this graduate application, I took a substantial break. It's worth noting that I already possess an MA from my undergraduate institution. Reflecting on my application process, I don't believe that having a graduate degree beforehand significantly contributed to my candidacy. Instead, I attribute the strength of my application to actively participating in conventions, presenting research, and networking, all of which enhanced my resume/CV.
