Public Policy, Yale University Not unexpected: as you can see quite a terrible GRE score as I did not have the chance to study for it at all. Always worth a shot though :) I handed in a video to try to make up for it/stand out and know they never clicked on it. I think if your GRE is under a certain number they might not even look at your application.

Security Studies Program, Georgetown University I truly did not think I'd even get in because of my GPA, but I applied anyway. I have 7 years of work experience, including 3 years on Capitol Hill (1.5 years at a Military Legislative Assistant). I had a strong story for my interest in technology and national security, having worked in tech in the private sector. I think my work experience and recommendation letters most likely tipped me over. If you're worried about your GPA, apply anyway and see what happens! All the advice I got about the Committee placing high value on work experience turned out to be correct. I did not take the GRE, and instead wrote an analytical essay on lethal autonomous weapons systems.

Biological Sciences: Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, And Genomics, University Of Maryland -> grad stats: MS Bioinformatics from USA with a 4.0 and 2 publications (1 first author, 1 co-author). Held a few leadership roles during masters. Solid LORs, TA+RA experience. -> undergrad stats: -Intl Student -2 gold medals (highest merit in campus and across all campuses) -ranked 1st in class (overall and in 4 semesters) -PS/SOP: 8/10 -LORs: 3 (10/10, 9/10, 6/10) well reputed faculty members -Extensive volunteering experience -Multiple ECs -Lead a few club teams -6 months full time SE experience -Bio major with a minor in CS -Gap year -No GRE, No publications -roughly 3.25 months to decision

Political Science, University Of Pennsylvania applied to 5 top poli sci phd programs this year, all rejected. International student, field: political communication, without poli sci degrees. Poli sci phd programs are so competitive and it seems that they don't welcome students from outside majors, compared with so called "tech" phd programs like hci, information, and cs, these programs seem more friendly. However, got a MA offer from Chicago MAPSS - poli sci. It's an encouragement.
