Graduate School Admission Results

Accepted but awaiting funding packages.

Got in with 3.11 cGPA but strong upward trend and high marks in core courses.

TPB: Where was your undergrad from that got you accepted at Dal?

To the Dalhousie Admit Below: What was the funding package offered to you, if I may ask?

Guy with 3.11 GPA here from below. Funding offered was a $8000 scholarship + TA Position for total of $15,000. Got my undergrad from Queen's. Also got accepted to uOttawa (no funding). As for the person asking about quality, they're definitely a more undergrad orientated school, but the campus is actually very nice. As for federal positions I have no idea.

TPB: Yea I've looked into uOttawa's acceptance and it looks like they just have a cGPA requirement for any funding and/or TA positions, which is unfortunate. Just because of the funding I'll most likely be accepting Dalhousie. The only advantage I can see to going to uOttawa is the proximity to so many public sector econ jobs. Dalhousie is a wonderful school so hopefully I'll see you there!

TPB: Unless you're trying to get into a top tier PhD I really don't think that the name of the MA will count for much. Again, it's a little bit of a causation/correlation issue right. Are the best students just going to Queens/UBC/UofT and getting selected or do those schools provide something that others don't? I'd go with the former to be honest. But here at Queen's I do know that a lot of public sector big names come to actually recruit students. So that opportunity might be lost. Anyways Dal is a great school and the funding/community is amazing from what I've heard.

Undergrad GPA was about 3.3/4.0 with a stronger final year (3.7). Experience in Environmental Assessment, GIS, strong references, number of cycling-related volunteer experience.
