  • Non-traditional student. 15 years of work experience. Licensed attorney and pharmacist in NY. Did not take the GRE but had decent GPA in both pharmacy and law school. Very excited about the opportunity and will definitely attend. I submitted my application back in 8/29 so it does take a while to get a decision. So, be patient and good luck to everyone waiting.

  • Currently a master student at U of I. I took the PhD intro seminar and impressed my professor this semester. On Friday the PhD academic director in U of I told me they want to give me an offer and hope I can start the PhD program ASAP. I will quit my master and directly go into the PhD program starting in January. And this fall semester as a master student counts towards the doctoral program since the only doctor-level course is the intro seminar.

  • My last recommender took FOREVER to respond, but I got a call on Tuesday (November 12) to inform me that the application was complete and was notified on the Thursday morning (November 14) that I had been accepted. I have a master's degree in Linguistics, some PhD coursework, research experience, over 10 years of work experience, and a 4.0 in my graduate classes. I only applied to this program since I was looking for an online program, and this was the only master's program that didn't make me retake the GRE (It's been like 10 years!). I guess I got lucky on my first try. I'm still a bit fuzzy about the financial aid situation, and I had a hard time getting ahold of my admissions counselor and financial aid this week, as I'm guessing they're slammed. Still planning on enrolling, but can't wait to hear some more specifics about classes and costs. Look forward to meeting others from the Spring '20 Speech@Emerson cohort!
