Physics, Stanford University TTPB: I am not in he-th, but I have talked to many professors (from different schools) who usually sit in admissions committees. The single most important factor is LORs. Not only do the LORs have to be exceptional, the LORs should be from people who the admission committee knows and trusts (unfortunately, this is not possible for everyone). If you have the above two, rest of the application becomes irrelevant.

Physics, University of Oregon TTPB: Thanks! I initially got one of the rejection emails and informed the department that I would like to be considered via their waitlist if a spot opened up. I had no additional contact with the program before this email came from the department.

Physics, Amherst College Informal email recommending me for admission on Feb 2 (see the post below). Formal letter comes today, offering 20k TAship + 2k bonus for two years. Summer RAship ~ 8k to be confirmed. Applied for HEP-ex. 1.5 years research with the ATLAS experiment. Very strong LORs from supervisors.
