QIS experiment + photonics interest. 2 years of research. no publications. did reach out to a PI before submitting the app and he was one of the two who interviewed me, so i think that helped a lot.

TTPB: I did not mean a second round interview. Another admissions committee for the entire department comes together and reviews applications from each research division.

TTPB: I had an interview last week as well. They didn't tell me about a potential second round of interview. But they did mention it would take 2-3 weeks to make the decision and it will only come out before the end of this month.

TTPB: 3 weeks from last week is March 1. Their website says that they will let everyone know by March 1. Not too late- deadline to accept is April 15 for almost every school. I was told that they received a 50% increase in applications because of COVID. That means they got 1500+ applications. This is how it was explained to be: MIT has research divisions, they have an admissions committee within the division. They decide on who they want to admit. The division brings that to the admissions committee for the whole department, they decide who gets in and funding, then it goes to the Physics department head to get signed off on. My interviewer also said that it's working different this year because of Covid and how many applications they got and that they have to do everything virtually.

TTPB: 3 weeks? Isn't that too late? They usually announce the results around this time of year. Is it because of the pandemic?

TTPB: I think the person who posted their acceptance is fake... I had an interview last week and was told that they have to go through a second review with the entire admissions committee and then to the department head. I was told it would be 3 weeks for a decision.

TTPB: What's your subfield?

TTPB: It was from the acceptance email, I think they will send more than 25 offers since some will decline, I think that is just the number of spots they have available for students that accept their offers

TTTB: Where did you hear that they are only accepting 25 students?
