Since these posts are probably going to get deleted anyway there is really no harm in answering. Three of my LOR told me that they would "write me letters that would get me into any university in the world". Considering all three of them are famous (one of them in their respective field and reached out to a POI at Stanford to push my app, the others are like you would literally know their names offhand kind of famous). I figured that was good enough to bank on (along with all the work I did in research and good GPA). I didnt really want to waste a bunch of money on app fees, and I really really like how they run things and what they are doing at Stanford (the first year having research rotations is sick). So I just applied to one school and one school only.

Curious about why you only applied to Stanford. Was told by several senior people that applying to a wide range of schools was important since the admissions numbers are constantly in flux. E.g. my mentor's class as MIT theory was huge, meaning they took zero theory people the next year. But it might be that the type of research you want to do only exists at Stanford? Or that you already have a guaranteed in with an advisor there?

Considering Stanford is the only school I applied to, my life depends on it.

Hi everyone, I get that there are a lot of feelings and stress about grad admissions, but lets's try to calm down a little bit. Our lives don't depend on getting into Stanford, and I'm sure we've all proven ourselves as solid researchers and prospective physicists at this point :-) So let's try to be friendly and just wait and see what happens :-)
