Biomedical Engineering, Duke University Group recruitment visit 12/30-2/1. Biochemistry major at HBCU. Abyssal GRE scores. Met POI (SM) at a conference at Brown University (summer program), email contact/updates since early June. 3 years of similar research to POI at home institution. Under supplemental material, I added my NSF GRFP research proposal that referenced POI's work. NOTE: GRE IS NOT EVERYTHING!! You are a researcher, not a trained lab rat. Put your effort into what's important to the school ($$$ external fellowships and networking)

April 2019

Physics, NSF GRFP Honorable Mention: E/E, E/E, VG/VG. One E/E directly said "this is a very strong application and I recommend it for GRFP funding." The VG/VG reviewer said I "would have benefited by a more detailed description of the benefit of the research opportunities with respect to the overall growth of the candidate (e.g. team work)" and that my Broader Impacts statement "lacks of details about the connection of the research with the broader non-expert non-college audience." I'm lucky I got actual constructive feedback; I know so many people who only have positive comments yet don't receive the award, so don't know how to improve! So I wanted to share it with y'all too in case it maybe applies!
