Recent Graduate Admission Results July 2024
Physics, The University Of Delaware Finally received my University of Delaware rejection. I was rejected by all 18 programs that I applied to this year. I’m a physics and mathematics double major, graduated with honors and a 3.95 GPA. I have four years of experience as a research assistant in experimental particle physics, and two as a research assistant in applied condensed matter physics. I attended three REU programs, presented at two undergraduate research symposia, attended one APS meeting, and published two papers (well, one has only been submitted). I’ve contributed significantly to several open source computational physics software projects, and software written by myself has been used in published research conducted by faculty and students at three separate institutions. I was awarded one external graduate fellowship. I’m nine months and a few hundred applications into my job search and have only had two interviews. I’ve accepted a fast food position and guess I’ll save up so that I can re-apply to graduate programs this or next fall.

Medical Physics, University Of Florida Applied with 3 year of research in physics, master's in medical physics, submitted an abstract, 11th rejection overall. Email did not seem as generic as a lot of rejections, which was nice. I have 2 schools left to hear from, probably the end of the road for me.

Physics And Astronomy, University Of Texas At Austin I have a Master's with a cgpa 3.98. Physics GRE 990/990 with 95% percentile, and GRE 322/340. I have two research papers in theoretical high-energy physics. However, I want to work in theoretical condensed matter physics. UT Austin told me they don't have a position for theoretical CMP and offered for the experimental. So I am gonna turn down this offer. I got a total of 8 admissions, UT Austin, U of Florida, Rice U, Colorado Boulder, TAMU, UTK, NCSU, and U of Alabama. Only TAMU, UTK, and U of Alabama offered me theoretical condensed matter physics. Finally, I decided to go with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Happy to have a position in my desired field.

Physics, Western Michi I don`t have any other offer by now. I am waiting for the outcome of my application to Ohio University (waitlisted) since 15 Feb. Can anyone tell me whether PhD physics from WMU is fruitful or not? Is there any alumni of WMU? my experience : Teaching assistant- 2 years and Research assistant- 1.5+ years (condensed Matter Physics)

Physics And Astronomy, University Of Notre Dame Why they took 4 fu*king months to simply reject ??? Waste of money, waste of mental energy, waste of time. This admission cycle is going terribly wrong. Don't know what happened to physics department this year, lack of funding or what ????? F*ck you.....

Physics, New York University Physics & mathematics double major with 5 years of continuous research experience (starting 1 year prior to entering college), two REUs, one non-REU summer research program, one summer school in high-energy theory, and one summer school in mathematics (participated in two programs over some summers). One first-author publication, another in writing, and one poster presentation at an undergraduate research symposium. Three years as a teaching assistant for introductory physics courses, and one semester as a teaching assistant for vector calculus. Wrote and/or significantly contributed to a few pieces of open-source software widely used in the field. Rejected by all 20 schools I applied to this year, and finding it incredibly hard to get a job with a physics/math degree.

Physics, New York University subfield: hep-ph. 4.0 undergrad GPA, now doing a master's at a top (or more confidently, best) EU program for theoretical physics, 5 research, 1 pub. Thought NYU was my safe choice lol. Already committed to a better offer, now don't bother to reject this one. This year's application is getting unbelievably tough. The suggestion for 25 applicants is to apply as much as you can

Physics, New York University I have heard from anonymous sources that there is rolling admission, meaning that since I haven't heard back but was not outright rejected, I am effectively on a waitlist. If you are not planning on attending, I would greatly appreciate it if you would alert NYU so that I and other on the waitlist may stand a better chance of being admitted. Like many of you, I have been pursuing physics for years, and I have struggled to find my footing due to persistent health problems. This is probably my last shot.

Physics, Northwestern University Unofficially waitlisted on February 29th via email from advisor, Officially waitlisted March 27th via email from Physics and Astronomy Graduate Program, Unofficially accepted April 4 via email from advisor (told I will receive an acceptance offer from the department in a couple days).

Physics, North Carolina State University I don't feel sad because I have got admits from a couple of better universities. But this was one of my safe schools. I wonder whether admission into PhD Physics has become too competitive this year. Especially if you are not from CME (I am from CME). Applicants next year must be super-conservative while applying. And I also wonder why this is so. Physics has recently been suffering from a dearth of funds but it seems as if we have become poorer all of a sudden.
