ignore waitlist; does any one receive an offer in field of CMT?

I just wanted to say what a fucking year is this! 19 rejections and 1 acceptance in hep-th. Even all my safe schools rejected me. I haven't applied to Universities like MIT and all but rather chose which I was confident to get into. With three publications in PRL and JHEP, conferences, four projects in hep-th and two ongoing projects in AdS/CFT, being the University topper and taking a break of an year, preparing hard for the PhD admission, I literally screwed up this year in securing an admission that I dreamed of. I didn't understand why the fuck are they not mentioning the number of vacancies in prior. Every fucking school says we have no vacancies and for fucking sake they have no ashamed in begging money from the students. But I don't regret for choosing hep-th and I will show that what I am capable of.

Expected

hep-th (quantum gravity / cosmology). To be honest, I am thankful that I have been admitted to HPMS but I am feeling a bit lost as to whether to pursue hep-th or a PhD at all (I am considering jobs unrelated to physics). I have had professors explicitly discouraging me from pursuing quantum gravity and have met jaded PhD graduates of the most famous hep-th professors (when I was interning in the industry). My own experiences in hep-th have been intellectually fulfilling but it is sometimes difficult to tell if my work is related to the real world---the essence of physics seems to be missing. I have started looking at CMT (especially topological materials) but it still seems to have limited applicability in practice. To the applicants out there, how did you know you wanted to pursue a PhD and what are your post-PhD plans? For the hep-th applicants out there, why do you want to do hep-th?

Actually waitlisted. “The department regards you as an outstanding potential candidate for admission and we have placed you on our wait list for admission. However, since we have only a limited number of full-funding offers that we may make, we are not yet able to make a final decision on your application. We hope to get a better sense of the resources available to us, and thus be able to determine whether we might be able to offer you admission with funding, by April 15.”

Notified that after the first round of review, I was waitlisted and if they move to a second round, they will consider the waitlisted applicants again. Email the graduate coordinator to know your status!

Ignore waitlist . Did anyone here get acceptance from Stony Brook University in condensed matter physics?
