Graduate School Admission Results

Hey y'all! This forum has gotten me through some seriously hard times the last two years, so I thought the least I could do was post my results. This is my second time applying for Brown PhD (and third time applying for Brown overall... I applied ED as an undergrad and also got the ax), and between then and now I went on to do a master's and continued developing my research. My application and writing sample both changed quite a bit. I was devastated last year when I got rejected, but it never hurts to try again. If you don't know, the admissions committee (i.e. the specific and randomized group of faculty who happen to be reviewing applications that year) changes every year, and you never know who is going to be on it. Plus, new people join the faculty all the time. If it didn't work out this year, there's a big chance the people reading your app just happened to have a mismatch of research interests. Don't give up!

Graduate GPA: 4.0 Invited to interview in final round.

Just checked the portal to find the message: "Awaiting approval by PAO" which means the department had approved my MPhil application. Funding decision (Cambridge Trust and Gates Cambridge still pending)

Invitation for an interview was received through email on the third week of December 2022. Interviews were held during the first week of January 2023.

Due to increased funding, I was offered a spot for an MA/Ph.D. after initially having my application for admission denied in February 2022.

If you got an offer for this program and will defer, please please please let them know asap so they can start calling waitlisted folks!

Unlikely to attend bc of funding, but yay I guess

Columbia GSAS was my dream school and I will be attending!

Personal e-mail from Dr. Haddad. Immediately wanted to set up meeting to talk about funding. Great conversation!

GPA is MA. Physical letter mailed out to me dated March 7 (had forgotten to check the mail until today!). Didn't expect a rejection, but with less-than-great funding, don't think it would have been a possibility either way. Deciding between two programs now. Final results: 2a/5r/0w

Not the best news, but I'm still waiting for the other two to come out. Hopefully everything would turn out just fine. Brown was my second choice, hence it is still a bit disappointing. Plus I think I had a strong LOR. It's either that I'm not good enough or fit for the program. Best of luck to all other applicants!
