Physics Graduate School Admission Results

To person below applying for physics, I have applied to 3 supervisors (Theoretical Condensed Matter, Experimental Condensed Matter, Theoretical High Energy) and the first two profs said they had no space left, whereas as the third one (along with a 4th prof also in Theoretical HEP) said he was willing to take me but had no funding and therefore couldn't. It seems in general that profs not having available funding in the theoretical groups is somewhat of an issue right now, and profs in the physics department are not allowed to take students without providing them directly/indirectly with funding.

To others asking about Brandeis, I had received an email on April 12, 2017 from a professor asking if I was still interested in the program and if so, whether I'd be willing to participate in an interview. Since I had already accepted another offer, I declined.

To the Brandeis poster who was contacted below: (1) Congrats and thanks!!!!, (2) To what area were you applying?, (3) What were your stats? I am sitting here hoping so much that I get in!

To the person asking more about the Brandeis email, I had applied for biophysics (both experiment/theory). The email I received was from a professor working in experimental soft-matter/biophysics. I had a horrible UGPA (one of the lowest in my class), and average PGRE scores, but had considerable research experience (3 publications, and 1 under review). I think they started reviewing the applications pretty late, and I don't think they've made many offers. Best of luck!

They didn't even bother to send an email. One recommendation was submitted two weeks late. I'm not sure they even reviewed my application.

Anyone knows when they are going to send second round offers?.

I have/had much better offers.

Currently a graduate student working on my MS in physics, set to graduate this summer with it. Applied for CMT, 1 publication under review, 3 years research experience including undergrad. Grad GPA is 3.58 currently. This was a safe school but guess I'm not worthy of admission just yet. 1 school left to hear from but not optimistic. Think the GREs killed me. Oh well, I'll take a job at Fermilab instead.

Waitlisted first, 3 years of research experience with two International publications ( one with first and corresponding author), two year Undergrad level teaching experience, Masters degree with 76% cgpa...

Was waitlisted at UIC and considered comptetitive, Northwestern was slow and expected.

Did you actually hear that you were wait listed? I was also told that my application was "competitive" because I wasn't rejected as of yet. However I suspect that they hold on to everyone's application and reject everyone at once.

My application is still in review:( But one of the profs said that if I haven't receive any offer yet, then I'm not going to get any since all the profs have made their choice. Does anyone here have the same situation?

Rejected, no offer in hand....

To the person asking about UC Davis - I haven't heard a peep either. Tried to withdraw but they never even sent me an applicant number. Possibly lost between the cracks.

Is there any hope of offer? Still waiting to hear from them since applied.
