To poster below, I'm the one interested in Hep-ex

To hep-ex person, since you are a domestic applicant, you must have attended their visiting weekend so do you have some idea how many were interviewed that day or are interviewed in total and what would be their approximate class size? I was told that they are hiring more profs. this academic year and may take a bigger class than usual.

To CMU poster below, there were 24 people at the visiting day, and I was told that they generally accept around 10 +- 3 students. I don't know if that's domestic applicants or total. I don't know the number of students there that were waitlisted vs. the number that were accepted. If there is no more information available by Monday, I'll email to find out.

People who have better offers please decline your offer at NCSU. This can be my last chance.

"What is going on is that we had an unexpectedly large number of people accepting our direct offers, and so we are by now in a spot where I fear we might not be able to move any further on our waitlist. This is very unusual, and of course also very disappointing from your point of view, which I fully understand. But since there are still several offers out about which I have not yet heard, I am at the moment not in a position to move further on the waitlist, and my best expectation is that this will not change by the end of the week." For the love of everything that's good, please decline if you are not planning on going.

To CMU poster below, I also got the same mail. Does that mean we are rejected? In my case, I know at least one person who has declined their offer for cosmology, so how many do they send for a spot, any idea? Please guys, decline your offers now if you are not going to CMU.

To the poster below, I don't think that it means we've been rejected, but there's not a good chance that they'll go through the waitlist in time. I'm assuming that I've been rejected, but I won't be accepting my offer to my backup school until the 15th; just in case CMU gets a record number of declined offers.... I have no idea what the numbers look like for the number of offers per position, sorry.

TA 18000 for 9 month plus up to 6000 summer TA/RA and we are also pleased to offer you stipend enhancement of additional 2000. Nothing written about health insurance.

Accepted with full scholarship (700 Euros/month). ~89% in undergrad, several projects, 1 publication, 1 submitted.

Exp. AMO. Rejected from waiting list. Email from graduate coordinator saying that they received several more acceptances than they were prepared for and they're really excited and happy about their incoming students, but that means they'll have to cut the whole waiting list. Not very professional. I guess their 700 PGRE cutoff is fairly hard. Got into better schools anyway.

They are mailing the official acceptance letter to me for me to sign, but they notified me via email that I was accepted with a teaching assistantship.

Funny that anyone still uses snail mail for admissions/rejections these days...
