New York University Economics Graduate School Admission Results

TBPs: there is an official waitlist which they told us they expect to send offers to from April 10 onwards. IIRC ~50ish people were at the virtual visit day, and the target class size is 20. So I guess maybe 10-30 interested people on the waitlist at that stage (depending on how many offers they sent out).

NYU is done sending out offers. It is a rejection at this point.

TPB: same. No response from NYU. I was admitted by a top 20 that keep pushing me to make decision, but I still don't wanna give up NYU.

(Not interview) Has anyone else heard absolutely nothing from this school just like me? I am being pushed by another program to make a decision but I just don't want to give up on NYU. Could someone please tell me is this a definitive rejection?

NOT WL. I received a generic response from the department after I simply asked where my rejection letter was and when they expect to send them out... "Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in our program. While we are not yet ready to release your decision, we can let you know that many of our admission and waitlist offers have already gone out. We hope to be back to you with a final decision soon."

TPB: interesting so I guess there's still some implicit waitlist then. The email I got on 3.18 is this: “Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in our program. At this time we can let you know we have sent out most of our admission and waitlist decisions to those we are interested in. You should receive an official decision soon.”

[NOT WL]. TPB: (1) Regarding NYU, I sent that email and got this: "Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in our program. While we are not yet ready to release your decision, we can let you know that many of our admission and waitlist offers have already gone out. We hope to be back to you with a final decision soon." (2) On UPenn: I was waitlisted a couple of weeks ago. They asked me two questions: (i) Do I have external funding? (ii) Do I still want to attend even if I don't get funding from them? I would say that you should email them if you have/can get external funding, otherwise be prepared to pay upwards of 70k USD during your first year. My feeling is that they waitlisted a lot of people just to speculate on external funding. (I was sent this, though: "Fortunately for us, many of our top-ranked candidates have outside scholarships that cover all these expenses."). Good luck

TPB: Thank you for your information and response. I was tempted to email the coordinator but I was expecting a generic "you'll hear our decision when we send it out" type of response. Moreover, I've seen nothing about UPenn Economics at all. Only applied. That is why I am concerned.

TPB I sent the coordinator an email 2 weeks ago, and they said they have done sending most of acceptances and waitlist, so I think it is IR at this point. Sorry I don't have better news for you and good luck on UPenn. I have 0 idea on that.

Not WL. Have not heard from both econ department and stern at NYU. Curious about what have happened.

Not rej yet. My guess is the rejection will come from the graduate school admissions directly instead of the department. So that's why they have not rejected us yet.

[Not WL]: NYU did acceptances and waitlists like a month ago. Why can't they just reject everyone else like normal human beings?

No phone call. Got e-mail to check my portal, got financial aid. So happy

[Not waitlist] Does anyone know what is going on with NYU? Is not hearing back from them an IR or wait list? I don't think they've sent out rejections, but I've seen both acceptances and wait lists. So I'm guessing IR.

No funding. Domestic student. Got an email to check the portal. Applied 1/11, notified 3/3. Deadline to accept April 15.
