New York University Physics Graduate School Admission Results

I got accepted by Columbia a month ago so I don't care about this but it just shows you that this process doesn't always make sense.

TTPB: I was waitlisted, but have not heard back. Does that indicate that I did not get in off the waitlist based on your message?

emailed NYU Grad admissions today – they've made all their first round offers and will be sending waitlist offers sometime this week.

On behalf of the Department of Physics, I am writing to inform you on the status of your application for admission to New York University's Graduate School of Arts and Science. It is the policy of the Graduate School to offer admission to outstanding doctoral students only if they are fully funded. Such funding comes from the Graduate School's MacCracken Fellowship Program, offered to a limited number of prospective students selected by the department. The department regards you as an outstanding potential candidate for admission and we have placed you on our wait list for admission. However, since we have only a limited number of full-funding offers that we may make, we are not yet able to make a final decision on your application. We hope to get a better sense of the resources available to us, and thus be able to determine whether we might be able to offer you admission with funding, by April 15.

TTPB Where did you hear that NYU will make decisions on March 9? I was assuming I got rejected because I have not heard back yet. Good luck!

TTPB: I emailed NYU last week and here is the response: "We have already made all of our first-round offers. Beginning on March 9th, we will begin contacting students on our waitlist." Hope this helps.

I got the email in class and went and snotty baby sobbed in the bathroom for around 15 minutes and I am considering setting my hair on fire

Same message as below poster.

"We considered your records impressive and only the size of our entry class prevented us to extend an offer to you. While the chances of a later opening are very small, we are holding your application at the present time and until June 1 in case there might be an opening" If you don't want to enroll in this school please decline soon. Thanks

Any news for waitlisters ? They said they will be notifying waitlisters this week.

Did any waitlisters get a mail from NYU, asking to be still in the waiting list ? Are there some waitlister who are still interested in NYU ?

I applied this program for Fall 2014. Deadline was February 1st. I have waited for about 2 months and still don't get any news from the school. Has anybody received the email yet?

Poster below: no clue, the response I received was a rather generic "We are waiting for responses from other students before we can make an admission decision", rather than a formal waitlist. Best of luck to you.

To the poster below on NYU, did you ask your standing in the waitlist ? And do you have an idea what is the a safe rank in the waitlist to be, to be sure to get into NYU.
