TTPB: A friend of mine is a CompBio PhD direct-hire first-year at EPFL, so don't lose hope; I recall her only having her offer confirmed in late March. But, I know for sure that she was emailing some labs before she got her place -- maybe a thing you could try?

Has anyone who was considered eligible by the admission committee but not offered a fellowship heard back from the committee/contacted by labs about a direct hire in the PhD program? The email sent a month ago states that 10-20% of enrolled students are direct hires, so there must be someone who eventually makes it out of this limbo

Expected decision - EE BTech from 3rd Gen IIT with high GPA - DLCV profile - 1 OK pub, 2 under review at A*, 6 months+ Research Internship at Good Indian Lab

Accepted with fellowship. EPFL Computer science MSc GPA - 5.8/6, multiple publications.

2 US research internship, 3 top-conference papers under review, top uni

Strong LoRs, 2 not so cool publications, great GPA in Masters (3.94/4), and bad GPA (3.0/4) in Bachelors

Pros: Stellar GPA, strong LORS, startup experience, research internship, great thesis supervisor (ACM & IEEE Fellow) Cons: No papers, 2nd class Uni

2 first-author papers in IEEE TVT, 1 first-author paper in IEEE ICC workshop, 1 first-author paper in NeurIPS workshop. Undergrad GPA ~= 3.8/4.3 so sad to get rejected without interviewed

1.3 from a top German University, 1 paper as the 2nd author, multiple research experience.

1 top conf paper. No interview. Good GPA / GRE etc.

8.9/10.0 gpa, 2 papers under review, strong lors

Rejected without interview. Tier 1 college from India with good GPA, research experience and LoRs, but no pubs. Subfield: Theory.
