University of Lisbon. Bachelor's in Computer Science (IST). Final grade of bachelors: 17/20. Exchange student at EPFL for 1 year with average 5/6 in the Spring semester. No research experience. One year work experience (not in a big company). I also worked with an EPFL lab during the exchange.

From Politecnico di Milano, no work experience/research

Accepted with fellowship. EPFL Computer science MSc GPA - 5.8/6, multiple publications.

Got recommendation from ACM fellow professor, two other recommendations from renowned professors in their field, currently a master student from a prestigious university in Europe with EU scholarship, top grades in my masters, intern and research in the last 2 years during masters, 3 years in R&D organization, and have been in contact with a prospective professor. The professor told me that my application was already filtered from the first stage when the committee "count" my grades, so he didn't get to see my documents, not even recommendation were read by the committee. The only logical reason is because my bachelor is from a third-world country. If you come from 3rd world and don't have the highest GPA in your campus, just stay away don't waste your time. They won't bother at all even if you have good recommendation and experiences.

Is there ANY info on the research scholarships?

All hopes with Europe shattered. 8.25 GPA, new IIT BTech CSE, 2 conference publs in IEEE and ACM, recos from renowned but new Asst Profs. gre 317

2 Conference papers + 1 paper on review + 3 patents, topper of the class, I expressed my interest in particular for research scholar masters. I guess over qualification must have been the reason for reject!

Presumably excellent recos, 2 excellent academic research internships, 1 paper, open source contributor.

Go to better school. It's the reason that EPFL still is EPFL, not better ;)

3rd result, 3rd failure. Why is this happening to me? I have 4 IEEE conference papers and 1 under review journal paper. My BSc GPA is 3.7 and my MSC GPA is 3.85.
