To the mml poster below. I'm already at Oxford doing my masters and based on conversations with staff and information meetings, the admissions tutors across divisions decide on funding in a fairly centralised way. It's v v complicated to explain on here but the faculty admission board, e.g. MML, have to make the case for their strongest candidates to the division – this is why there are different numbers of funded students each year across the humanities (one year there could be 5 french DPhils and the next 7). The faculty does have its own special pools of money that it also offers, which is why results come out in dribs and drabs and are hard to predict. All ertegun offers are sent at the same time because there is a special ertegun board that makes the final decision from a shortlist provided by humanities division (but that may be a different time to other funding offers like AHRC, Clarendon because these are often partner funding schemes that are also supported by colleges putting up their own money!). In short, it takes a long time at Oxford because it's a far bigger beast than elsewhere but also I know the strike is having an effect as tutors are withholding labour they do for the department, and now that teaching is over that work is almost entirely administrative work so includes admissions.

I am the poster who was interviewed for the Ertegun scholarship earlier this month. The interview took place two weeks after the standard departmental interview, and it was with the DGS of my potential department, not with the Ertegun committee directly. A decision from the department is expected this week, and Ertegun decisions are due by the end of March. My sense is that each department in the Humanities Division has its own procedure and timeline for interviewing and nominating applicants to various funding schemes, including the Ertegun. Feeling solidarity with the staffers who are striking and with all of us who continue to wait for news about our applications. Given the amount of questions and general confusion on this thread and The Student Room, it's clear that the University should scrap that generic timescale flowchart in favor of providing more transparent, course-specific guidelines about the admissions process. 2a/0w/0r/1p

Email from Head of MPhil Admissions, still awaiting official letter. Asked to be notified early because of a fully funded offer deadline elsewhere. Application has been passed to the Funding panel (no further information). From the Admissions Office (email 5th March): "Decisions are usually communicated after 8-10 weeks (16th-30th March), but we are doing our best to communicate to all applicants as soon as possible. Offer letters are likely to be sent in a week or so."
