- To the mml poster below. I'm already at Oxford doing my masters and based on conversations with staff and information meetings, the admissions tutors across divisions decide on funding in a fairly centralised way. It's v v complicated to explain on here but the faculty admission board, e.g. MML, have to make the case for their strongest candidates to the division – this is why there are different numbers of funded students each year across the humanities (one year there could be 5 french DPhils and the next 7). The faculty does have its own special pools of money that it also offers, which is why results come out in dribs and drabs and are hard to predict. All ertegun offers are sent at the same time because there is a special ertegun board that makes the final decision from a shortlist provided by humanities division (but that may be a different time to other funding offers like AHRC, Clarendon because these are often partner funding schemes that are also supported by colleges putting up their own money!). In short, it takes a long time at Oxford because it's a far bigger beast than elsewhere but also I know the strike is having an effect as tutors are withholding labour they do for the department, and now that teaching is over that work is almost entirely administrative work so includes admissions.
