To the post admitted to UCB biostat MA/PHD track below. Did you also get a letter in the attachment of email? My email says I am admitted to the MA/PHD but the attachment letter shows the MA program instead, which is very confusing. By the way, does it show that you need to pay for NRST after the first year? Thank you so much!

Got accepted, no funding. Is the 'no funding' bit definitive? How do people plan to pay for this program?

TTPB: Just had the same rej letter. "Scholarship below that of admitted applicants". Googled it, it mostly means that the admitted students have a stronger background. Just fyi, my undergrad is in Applied Math, and master in Stats. I have 1 first author pub in stats related field, 2 third author pubs in engineering field. 3 very strong letters and 1 is from the top 1 Biostat school. Admitted to several Math programs, but still rejected from both UCR and UCD. Hope you won't feel too upset, UC system is the most unpredictable one. You deserve so much better!

TTPB. I received the offer 2or 3weeks ago. I have declined it already for having several better choice. I think you have a strong profile and better academic background. I don’t have pub, not straight A GPA, and my grad program is far from a top program. Also I don’t have any experience with biostat, both course and research. But my math background is good, have taken lots of upper level theoretical courses in statistics, and got strong letters in such courses. Maybe they like math students or your recommendation letters are too average.

TTPB: Thank you for the clarification about "scholarship", but I don't think I am very bad as to my academic achievements, full grad gpa, one pub, one conf paper, top 5 bios ms, well, not good enough for UCD this year lol. Just really feel sad now.

TTPB: not sure about the context of the rest of the letter, but to me "scholarship below that of admitted applicants" is not referring to a monetary scholarship but saying that perhaps you were lacking in academic achievement, the other meaning of scholarship.
