Domestic applicant. Interview on Feb 11, 2026

GPA is from an MA. Have been rejected by the department for three years in a row, guess it's time to say goodbye to McMaster...

Informal interview with POI, went fine, super friendly!

Second time, I've tried to apply to the PhD program last year, failed, so I tried it again this year for the Master's one, failed again... sad

BA with 3.77 and MA with 3.652, guess I'm not good enough for the program...

Third rejection, and it's not looking good. Received the exact same form letter everybody else did.

"The Department of Linguistics and Language has now completed its review of applications to the graduate program in Cognitive Science of Language for 2014. I am sorry to tell you that your application was not successful. The two most important factors that we considered in assessing applications were a candidate's overall academic record, and the fit between a candidate's stated field of interest and the research programs of our faculty members. In some cases, this meant that we did not offer admission to an otherwise excellent candidate for whom we had no appropriate supervisor. We thank you for your interest in the Cognitive Science of Language program and wish you every success in your future endeavours."

To the person below, uttering profanities directed at the staff: I went to the open house too and got rejected as well (I'm the one who applied for the PhD and got rejected on March 11 too, forgot to mention I went.) Things sounded good there, with the staff also being interested. Still don't think this is a reason to go all obscene... in German. (I'm from Germany.) Good luck with your applications!

Attended their open house in October, which is a way to discriminate future students, and met some faculty members. Thought one of them was interested in my research proposal. It seems they only admit local students who only know one language and are socially awkward. Fick dich, Catherine, bloede kuh.

Expected since offer admissions were sent in early February. This program, even though they claim it as interdisciplinary, is only limited on eye tracking, theoretical syntax, and neuroscience, not in languages and linguistics. When I contacted their faculty members to see if my research interests were a good fit, they always suggested me to contact Dr. Anderson, since she could answer my questions best. She never replied. Oh well, this rejection didn't hurt, since this uni was my last option. Already accepted in my dream school. Good luck to the future applicants!!

Received an email inviting me to check the attached pdf about my status. This pdf then said they were sorry my application was unsuccessful and stressed that the two most important factors were a candidate's academic record and fit with advisor. Thought I had both; but maybe I didn't. Got an amazing offer from another school though which I am going to accept. :) Good luck everyone!

Personalized e-mail from the Graduate Chair of the CogScil program and tentative POI. Offered an OGS, $14,244 for 2 years including T.A. (grading exams and tutoring CogScil 731 students). Unexpected since I never had contact with the Graduate Secretary and sent a low-ball application. I will mostly decline their offer before their "acceptance deadline."
