Human Computer Interaction, Carnegie Mellon University Did not really receive an email, but when I asked few days ago I was told: The Office of Graduate Admissions brought it to our attention that you did not receive a response from our program on the status of your application. An email was sent to you on February 14, 2024 from our applygrad portal. Our apologies that it did not make it to you. Please see the below message from Director Geoff Kaufman: Dear applicant: I'm sorry to inform you that you have not been admitted to the Ph.D. Program in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon. Although it sounds like a cliché, the truth is that we were faced with very difficult decisions this year because we simply had many more highly qualified candidates than we were able to admit. We sincerely appreciate your interest in our program and the time and effort you put into submitting your application. We hope that you are able to pursue your HCI research interests in another way, and we look forward to seeing your future contributions to the field, even if you were not able to make them starting from our program. Computer Science, University Of Southern California This is for an MS in CS (for S&E). BA in Statistics from a Top 5 US public school, with all A's in CS courses like ds&a, OS, DB, AI, etc. No published research but a strong undergrad honors thesis in statistical machine learning, and a few decent projects in deep learning and computer vision. About 2 years of experience in startups and Big 4 consulting. Program-tailored SoP, though written in one night so not perfect. 1 LoR from a manager. The program targets engineering or science majors, but seems open to others with relevant experience or coursework in computing.

Computer Science, ETH Zurich - Swiss Federal Institute Of Technology Chinese applicant with a Chinese bachelor's in computer science. GRE not required & not submitted. 1-year-long research experience at an EPF Lausanne lab. 1 first-author conference pub & several non-first-author pubs. Probably decent LoRs. Also got admitted to Data Science MSc program. ESOP rejected for both programs.

MSc Computer Science, ETH Zurich - Swiss Federal Institute Of Technology Top 2% in bachelor's program, three strong letters of recommendation, decent motivation statement, two years of work experience, strong extracurricular activities and leadership roles. Came from a top 100-150 European university. (Also got into Msc Data Science and hence the repeating statement.)

Computer Science, University Of Pittsburgh Notified via mail that my application is no longer under consideration for CS, and I can switch to Information Science or Telecommunications. Surprising decision, but applying late might have hampered my chances.
