  • Jesus people, take it easy. This isn't the end of anyone's life - worst case scenario, just apply to more places next year :-) The top schools are extremely competitive, and not getting into one does NOT mean that you aren't very capable of succeeding in physics.

  • (Ignore Waitlist) TTPB: They might release on another day than today. Also, it's only 12pm in California right now.

  • Also no word from Stanford today for me. Perhaps our applications were just so bad and they didn't want to waste the effort on sending rejection emails? :(

  • Plenty of research, excellent rec letters and all that good stuff. Guess I'm not getting my phd in physics this year since it's 0/8. Oh well, I was already depressed, this is prolly the breaking point.

  • Man, if you think it is hard in any American or European countries, you should try your luck in India, especially if you are from poorest states. No diversity points, in fact very high performances expected to get in US because of large number of applications from my country. I was literally in top 0.1 percentile in undergrad admissions, so that I can convince my family to take physics as a career, which was still met by only disapproval. No one to guide anything about foreign applications. We (people from villages/small towns) have to even cross linguistic barriers to start imagining about US universities. Guess what, I am still not getting any PhD, despite my publications, thesis and working with top people in Asia.

  • TTPB: What's funny? I think that student's got an important point. How many Latin-American students (for example) do you see in the Department of Physics? Do you think that anybody can go to Harvard just by being smart? Just google average salary in Mexico, and they are one of the highest in Latin-America.

Status1 Key: A: American; U: International, with US degree; I: International, without US degree; O: Other; ?: Unknown.
