  • Had good interview with POI. Applied with masters from top-4 cs school. 7 papers (10 if you include in review) at ACL/EMNLP/NAACL/NeurIPS. Have strong LoRs. A lot of industry experience. At this point, what does it even take to get into Stanford...

  • Had an interview with poi, and thought the interview went well, but got rejected. Have several publications including top-tier conference 1st-author papers. Area: RL.

  • Should have known I have no chance. Good LoR, 1 year of research experience, no journal publication but has some gray publication and op-ed posts.

  • Area: NLP. Had a good interview with poi so kind of a bummer.

  • Rejected after the interview as well. 3.9+ GPA and great CV if you're interested. I agree with some of the previous posts about the waste of time/energy; a program with rotations should be fairly positive they are going to admit you if you get called for an interview. There were four separate 20 minute interviews for which I allocated 1-2 hours of preparation, not to mention organizing a quiet/private time and place for each interview, which all occurred during the middle of the day. I would have preferred an outright rejection so I could have spent my time/energy on schools that actually want me.

  • Thank you for your interest in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University. After careful consideration of your file, I am sorry to tell you that we are unable to offer you admission to the graduate program for the 2020-2021 academic year. Unfortunately we were forced to turn down many promising students this year. The number of available positions in the department is small, and it was greatly exceeded by the number of applicants. This year's applicant pool was also particularly exceptional, and the department's Graduate Admissions Committee was faced with many difficult choices. We wish you every success in your future endeavors.

  • TTPB: You're right, there's no rejections this week according to last year, but the first big round of acceptances would be this week, according to last year. No, I haven't yet emailed the graduate school.
