Bioengineering, Stanford University What a slap in the face from my undergraduate institution where I graduated with a BS/MS With Distinction. I'm 27 years old and would really like to get started on my PhD, but looks like I'm getting the shaft on this year's applications!

Computer Science, Purdue University "Your admission is without financial support by the CS department. The statistics indicate that your chances for funding by the CS department increase once you are a student here and have been doing well in your courses." It's true that only good students worth fundings, but I think Purdue should try to guarantee funding in admission process to attract more good students in the very beginning. (Look at the comments on thegradcafe...)

EE, Electrical Engineering, Princeton University The Department of Electrical Engineering has considered carefully your application for graduate studies. Each year we receive a large number of applications, but we can only admit a limited number of them. There are many highly qualified applicants whom we cannot admit because of our limited resources. Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) I regret to inform you that we are unable to admit you to the Ph.D. in Computer Science program at Carnegie Mellon. We received over 1700 applications this year. Our graduate programs can support only a limited number of new students. Unfortunately, we could admit only a fraction of the applicants, even though many more had strong qualifications.
