  • Well, after waiting far beyond reasonable I am giving up on UNC and accepting another offer today. I have never gotten any responses to queries other than "we apologize for the long wait, but your application is still under review, blah blah blah" I must admit that their application process does not inspire a positive impression anyway. If anyone ever hears anything, please post it here.

  • Just got off the phone with them. If you don't decline your offer by today or tomorrow, people on the waitlist cannot be offered admission, so you should really just decline if you're going to. It doesn't take long or much effort.

  • To the poster asking about advice, from financial perspective you better choose UA as it is better but you can think of comparing research groups in two universities. If you are deciding upon financial aspects then UA is better compared to the living expenses of Alabama

Florida State Univerisity (FSU)"Physics", PhD (F18)Other via E-mail on 11 Apr 2018 I11 Apr 2018
  • "Our admissions committee has sent the first round of decisions. As responses are received from those admitted, we will continue to make offers and fill positions as needed. This does not mean that you are on the waitlist nor that you are not admitted. It simply means that we are still looking at applications and making offers. I can't give you a specific number of applicants that will be contacted in the second round but I can tell you that we will make our final offers by mid-April." -- The reply I got when I mailed them yesterday.
