  • Dear all, Congratulations to you for being selected. My plea to all those fortunate applicants who have gotten into their dream schools is don’t wait to turn down 7-8 schools on the last day. Try to keep no more than 2 schools on your list by April 1. Consider the karmic fortune you are sharing with your peers who may be just as talented & deserving.
Tufts UniversityPhysics And Astronomy, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 A26 Feb 2020
  • Has no one still heard back from Tufts? I had an interview with them in January, and they said they accept students in two waves (one in February and one in March). But I have not heard back from them so far.
Rutgers UniversityPhysics And Astronomy, PhD (F20)Wait listed via E-mail on 26 Feb 2020 I26 Feb 2020
  • Hey guys, if you don’t want to attend Rutgers, please decline! Good luck and thank you so much! CMT/CME
Columbia University (Fu Foundation)Applied Physics, PhD (F20)Interview via E-mail on 20 Feb 2020 A26 Feb 2020
  • Was invited for a digital interview on 2/20. Have not heard back regarding the admission decision
Boston UniversityPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 I26 Feb 2020
  • To the person who got rejected via email, did you inquire or did they inform you themselves? I've been rejected from 7/7 places so far in the first round. I might have some hope for Boston if they didn't reject me instantly.
Boston UniversityPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 O26 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: what is your (intended) sub-field?

Kent State UniversityPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 I26 Feb 2020
  • Anyone heard back? I heard they have sent out all admits?
University Of Maryland, College Park (UMD)Physics, PhD (F20)Other via POST on 26 Feb 2020 26 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: Yep, that same is the situation for me. UMD is the only school which might change my decision. The guy responded that the official waitlist is not yet prepared as it is done only after a rejection list is made. I was told that they are still not done with the selection of students, but that was a week ago. I am not aware of the status now. Though, I expect that I am on the rejection list already.
Yale UniversityApplied Physics, PhD (F20)Accepted via E-mail on 7 Feb 2020 I26 Feb 2020
  • Same post as below: One more question, can graduate students in the Applied Physics Department choose supervisors in the Physics Department? Thank you.
Yale UniversityApplied Physics, PhD (F20)Accepted via Other on 26 Feb 2020 I26 Feb 2020
  • Anyone knows if I can "switch" to another research supervisor? I would like to work with someone whose name I did not mention in my SOP. I also have no prior research experience in that field but I really like to start fresh in that field. Is this kind of "switch" possible? Thanks.
Rice UniversityPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 26 Feb 2020
  • Anyone know if all acceptances have been sent out?

  • Anyone know if all acceptances have been sent out?
University Of MichiganPhysics, PhD (F20)Rejected via E-mail on 26 Feb 2020 I26 Feb 2020
  • Got accepted into better programs. However, one of my recommendation letters come from a professor at UMich who is also involved in the admission process. So ...
Columbia University (Fu Foundation)Applied Physics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 26 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: It's already over 6-8 weeks from the application deadline. I wonder if all acceptances have been sent out since there is only 1 acceptance on this forum, but the program probably takes a few students anyway so statistically that makes sense. Anyone with any ideas?
University Of Maryland (College Park)Physics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 O26 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: What do you mean they are still choosing more students? Are those on the waitlist? I haven't heard from UMaryland and it's the only school that may affect my final decision on which school to attend.
Columbia UniversityPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 O26 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: I don't think so. Only a few notifications have been sent out in total this year, and other posters have mentioned their PoIs told them that they are in the midst of sending second round offers. It's not over yet.
Columbia UniversityPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 26 Feb 2020 O26 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: According to previous years, I believe all acceptances have been sent out. They might send out rejections in the first week of March.
University Of Illinois Urbana-ChampaignePhysics, PhD (F20)Other via E-mail on 20 Feb 2020 A25 Feb 2020

City University Of New York (CUNY)Physics, PhD (F20)Other via E-mail on 25 Feb 2020 A25 Feb 2020
  • The physics dept sent me an email saying that my application is currently under consideration by the admissions committee. They said they should have all decisions made in the next few weeks (April). They are notorious for sending out decisions in late April/early May :/ time to continue waiting

UC Santa Cruz (UCSC)Physics, PhD (F20)Other via POST on 26 Feb 2020 O25 Feb 2020
  • TTPB: It may be possible that they send out all the offers by notification, and the rest of the admission decisions, which are/will be processed by the Graduate Division are mostly rejections and wait-list position. If they really want to admit us, they would surely send us a notification. I am giving up hope for this school at this point. Good luck to y'all.
