  • I was the poster from long ago asking if UW was worth the wait... Good to have closure, especially since I "survived" the massive batch of rejections a month ago. Hep-Th / Relativity. No publications.

  • Does anyone know if Penn is still sending out acceptances or if they are on a wait list. A bunch of rejections went out mid-Feb, but I did not hear anything and I had a chat (interview) with two professors in the admission committee in January.
University Of OregonPhysics, PhD (F20)Other via Other on 12 Mar 2020 U12 Mar 2020
  • TTPB: I don't think the reason you didn't get admission from UO is your GRE, I got admitted to UO last year with pretty low GRE and I received it in late Jan.

  • I e-mailed Kimberley Crosslan to inquire about my application status. She asked about my research interest to send my application to the relevant admission committee. She replied back that my application will not be selected for the admission process. She also said that they received 400 application and "are anticipating only admitting 26-27 students".

  • Received a Master's from the UO in Applied Physics. GPA is from my Master's. Received recommendations from Directors in the Department, the Professor I did my Master's research with, a Nobel Laureate, and even the Professor that handles the applications. I even scored higher than 70% of their current PhD students in all my Physics courses. The only thing that I can think of that killed it was my GRE. Americans are so obsessed with the GRE as an aptitude test. A proven record of success as a grad student wasn't enough. I guess they don't want me because I can't take a standardised test. Oh well, got into the PhD Programme at UToronto (where they don't care about GREs).
