Brown UniversityPhysics, Masters (F19)Accepted via Website on 16 Apr 2019 20 Apr 2019
  • Please help me choose! I failed in getting admitted to PhD this year but got two master admissions, Brown and Northwestern; astronomy field The physics master program in NU requires only one year, which means I have to apply just 8 months later. According to the situation this year, I don't think I'll get chances for PhD. In Brown they require two years, but it seems that the astronomy research at Brown is not as good as that in NU, and I heard that students easily got admitted to their master program. Really confused now. Anyone familiar with Brown physics? I still want to apply for PhD in astronomy later. Where should I choose then? I have to make my decision this week. Many thanks!!!

University Of UtahPhysics And Astronomy, PhD (F19)Rejected via E-mail on 19 Apr 2019 A19 Apr 2019
  • I actually received unofficial word that I had been admitted last year before the deferral. That led me to spend a year doing paid research before reapplying. I went to a national conference, improved my physics GRE by 30 points, and began work on a paper. I was very hopeful this admissions cycle, but after my interview which I thought went well I was kept in the dark for over a month and then sent a generic rejection.
Texas A & M University (TAMU)Physics And Astronomy, PhD (F19)Rejected via E-mail on 19 Apr 2019 A19 Apr 2019
  • Emailed my advisor from my REU, which I did at A&M this past summer. “ The physics department won't be making any additional offers for graduate admission this year. I believe that this will be relayed to all the applicants soon, but I wanted to let you know so that you could focus on trying to get into other programs. The pool was very strong this year, and there were only a small number of spots available in high energy theory in particular.“ Very unexpected and extremely disappointed.

  • I am wondering why the result form UCI comes so late. Anyway... I withdrew my application last week and finally the notification comes today... Why are there so few results from astronomy@UCI. In fact I think there is a really nice professor.

  • TTPB: I don't think Pittsburgh has sent out rejections to anyone yet.
