  • NOT a waitlist. TTPB: Do you know how many people they accepted? Do you know if they're still going through the process? Feb 1st seems accurate as to the data of previous years. It's kind of weird that there was only one acceptance post (post, not actual acceptances) this year, when previous years there's been many. Given the recent trend, I wouldn't be surprised if they only accepted 1 or a few students this year. Though, it is weird to see no rejection or waitlist posts. In any event, congratulations!!!

  • TTPB: I stole the following message from Reddit but thought you'd find it helpful: "Generally it’s more polite to ask for an extension than to accept an offer knowing you would withdraw if you got accepted somewhere else. Doing that will inconvenience the program as well as students on the waitlist. Some programs also have an enrollment deposit, which you wouldn’t get back. Just ask if you can wait to decide until you’ve heard back from the other programs you’ve applied to. Programs are almost always willing to do that, especially if you give them a time frame. That way you’re not causing yourself or the program any problems (or burning any bridges)."

  • To the poster admitted to this program: Congrats! I am one of the admitted applicants, too. How long have they given you to decide? I’m waiting for other universities and I’m not sure if it is appropriate to accept the offer and decline it later if I get admitted to other programs. Or should I ask them for more time? Any suggestions?

Harvard UniversityEnglish, PhD (F21)Rejected via Website on 6 Mar 2021 6 Mar 2021
  • Via website, no email. I'm a graduate student in another program here at Harvard and will be graduating in May with a master's anyway, and even with numerous publications and three rec letters from well-respected tenured Harvard professors (one from the English department), I was still rejected, so know that they really are incredibly selective! In the end, do good enough work wherever you go and if you still want the Harvard experience afterward, you can always apply to be a visiting fellow or instructor! Also, it is worth reapplying next year. I got accepted to Harvard as a reapplicant (in a literary field). It's possible.
Louisiana State UniversityEnglish, PhD (F21)Interview via E-mail on 5 Mar 2021 A6 Mar 2021
  • I received an email requesting an interview. I've already made a decision on another program, so I advised them. Hopefully, someone else can have my spot!
