  • Think there is not much chance. Just hope Wisconsin didn't use too warm words like 'very much in consideration for an offer' to create fantasy . Well... Sounds like I can possibly get an offer.
University Of Wisconsin-MadisonEconomics, PhD (F21)Wait listed via E-mail on 7 Apr 2021 U8 Apr 2021
  • Exactly what the post below says... think about what the 34 standing offers are: 1) top candidates from wl that just get offered, and very likely to accept(if the posting yesterday was real) 2)ppl who are waitlisted by better schools, which I think is the majority among 34, and most of those will accept since i don't think there's a lot of room in better schools 3)ppl who are debating with offers with other schools or the a-holes who have dominating offers and still have not rejected, those ppl are the ones that will reject and make space. Ppl on waitlist will get offer only if subset 3 has more than 14 ppl. So yeah, sorry for this pessimistic analysis. I am on the same boat and I do want to get off the waitlist as you guys, but I do think this is what it is.

  • TPB: Actually, it's very clear what it means. Think of it from the institutions point of view (which is where she's coming from). They have 34 "offers" and are looking for 20 "acceptances". The "acceptances" would be acceptances of their offer, not acceptance into the program (which to the institution is called an "offer"). In order for more people to come off the watilist, they'll likely wait until enough people have declined their offers so that there's no risk of overfilling the program to send out more offers from the wait list. I highly doubt there will be many more offers made (if any at all), depends on how deep the deadlock of students on other waitlists really is.

  • It was expected assuming they are taking only 15-20 people but they are taking 25-30, so a bit dejected, but it's fine!! Acceptance would have been a big surprise though and a happy one too!! Good luck to everyone on the waitlist :)

  • To posts below: I'm not really sure what "look for 20 more acceptances" implies in the email. It can be either they are expecting to fill 20 spots (student accepts program), or that they are expecting to give out another 20 offers and some offer holders will reject Wisconsin and go to other schools in the end (progran accepts student). The wording is just open to interpretation.

  • TBP: Oh I see. Then I also think that they are being quite disrespectful, it would be better to just outright reject some more and keep fewer students waitlisted, Thank you for the the info!
University Of Wisconsin-MadisonEconomics, PhD (F21)Wait listed via E-mail on 7 Apr 2021 7 Apr 2021
  • really not sure where you read that they have 20 more offers to send. The email they sent today basically is saying that they have 20 more spots to fill, and currently there's 34 offers out there. Sorry to be pessimistic but I don't think there will be a lot more offers to send out.
University Of Wisconsin-MadisonEconomics, PhD (F21)Interview via Other on 7 Apr 2021 7 Apr 2021
  • TBP: is it true that they are planning to send out 20 more offers then?

  • An insider, who was "Interviewed" and "Near the top of the waitlist". Becca once told me that the size of the waitlist is 50, and 25 are defined as "near the top". I also just received the "April 12 decision" email, and I believe at least 20 received this email. It means nothing. They are disgraceful.
