  • Also, getting into a PhD program, no matter how high-ranking, is just the first step of your academic life, the admission process is not as fair as it should be, so don't look down on other people just because you're admitted to a great school, cause it doesn't mean you're great as well. It's extremely possible that people you despise today are going to outlast you in the near future. Plus, everyone knows that department ranking is just a number, what's important is access to research resources suitable for your research interest, responsible and resourceful advisors, etc. If you think getting into the top 5 gives you the privilege to taunt other people, you are just way too shallow and shortsighted to have any success in any possible way.

  • TPB: I cannot believe the amount of arrogant, ignorant, self-centered, condescending, privileged pricks I've seen in this forum... If you already have an amazing offer, it would be a natural move to decline other offers, it's not even for the people that are waitlisted, it's just a normal thing that normal people would do. If your offer is so dominating, your choice is so easy, why do you have to stall the whole process? Isn't it just psycho? If you don't have a strictly dominating offer, it's of course perfectly understandable for you to take your time, but please keep in mind that it is a problem that many fellow applicants wish to have. And frankly, no WLers are really pushing, WLers are practically begging. Is it really that hard to be a bit nicer? I thought the offer holders are supposed to be the future of economic research and about to become teachers, it would be great if being a nice person is also something that you guys care about besides research skills and knowledge.

  • TPB: It is not my place to decide when people may or may not hold their offers. That is their call. The point of my comment is different.

  • TPB who complains: so I should hold all offers until the very last minute am I right?

  • It doesn't even matter if he will go to LRM MRM HRM or MIT. We all worked very hard, are anxious and it's a very s***y year. Sure it's 100% your right to take all the time you need but don't say stuff like that. The admission process is very noisy and I can assure you whatever school you'll get to there's a good chance someone eventually accepted from the waitlist and/or some people from lower ranked universities rejected by the place that accepted you, will do better in terms of placement.

  • TPB: Wow you're so cool! You got into T30 econ programs without getting waitlisted. Can't wait for you to fail the market in 6 years. Good luck to whatever program gets to have you!

  • Very tough guy, talking trash on an anonymous internet forum. THAT is what is pathetic. I can't wait for you to fail out of your program with your horrible attitude.

  • For those who are interested and/or might need it: several European programs are still accepting applications for Fall 2021 intake, I think. A few examples I could think of: Bonn, Mannheim, Sciences Po, Barcelona GSE, Trinity College Dublin, ... (I might be wrong though, so please check)

  • Not waitlisted, TBP: What schools are you waiting for?
AllEconomics, PhD (F21)Wait listed via E-mail on 30 Mar 2021 30 Mar 2021
  • Dear friends, Congrats on your acceptances. This is my second cycle and I have five schools waitlisted with no other acceptances.. I emailed the directors of the programs and all of them basically said “the market is moving very slowly than other years.” I can hardly go to sleep and wake up every hour due to the anxiety attacks.. If you have dominating offers, I would very much appreciate it if you could decline those offers. You can literally save lives by doing so. Thank you and best luck with your studies.

  • Agree with the previous poster: this is an important decision and everyone should take the time they need. But a big thanks to everyone who has rejected the offers that they're able too -- this is a huge help to everyone else. Good luck all.

  • TPB, as one of the people who have multiple offers, I can tell you that people do not keep them to hurt others. The decision to select which grad school to attend is immensely difficult, and not something to be rushed. If you have multiple offers please do not feel pressured to make an immediate decision. However, many people are on waitlists and very nervous, so don’t be holding an offer you know you will not accept. Thank You.

  • I know it's hard, but be patient. Let people decide at their own pace. After the visit days (next week) there will be a lot of movement.
AllEconomics, PhD (F21)Wait listed via E-mail on 18 Mar 2021 18 Mar 2021
  • Fellow economists, remember it's up to us how fast the waitlists move. You can always keep the best 2-3 schools you have dominating offers from, especially in a year like this we all could need a waitlist or acceptance notification before April. Hang in there!
