  • TPB: the main problem is the cost of housing. I searched in some website, and I found out that I should spend about $850 on rent (for a shared, furnished basement near the university). I found some cheaper options (the cheapest one was $600/month) but according to google map estimation it is quite far from the university (52 min with pub transportation, but 18 min with own car! I do not have a car, though). In addition, I read that one should spend about $250 on food in Riverside! If we assume that we should spend about $200/month on other things, then having about $1000 per month would NOT be a rational funding.

  • I received an offer from UCR with Dean's Distinguished Fellowship. Tuition waiver+ insurance for five years and a stipend 12600 dollars for the first year, TA assistantship 23k for the next four years. I feel like $12600 stipend is NOT enough for living expenses but the director told me this stipend is standard for everyone. For these who admitted, what is your funding package? Many thanks
