  • I had not received any notification about my application so I emailed the department and it was forwarded it to the professor I was intending on studying under. He called me saying I was on the list of students that would be accepted once funding is secured (delayed due to the government shutdown freezing all gov spending ie NSF).

  • To the guy who asked about the decision status in MS degree, I am still waiting for the results, too. However, several of my friends have got the offer about 1 month ago, so I think we are in the waitlist. Probably we should wait for other applicants to decline the offer. By the way, they do not respond to the email typically.

  • TTPB: I applied for the M. Eng. CS at Cornell.

  • TPB. Your background looks strong. Not sure of your area or degree type. If you are applying for Ph.D. (or top-notch research masters like Berkeley's or Cornell's), the admission is very situational and there is no way to find any criteria or threshold. You often see people doing their master from CMU with 3+ top conference papers got rejected; the most common practice for securing a slot is to get very strong RLs from someone who directly knows one's ROIs (previous co-workers etc), and quite frankly for those who do not have that would hardly stand a chance. If you applied to professional master programs, it is indeed very strange you didn't get any admits. But sh** does happen. There are people who got admitted to top-4 without extracurricular experiences and so the opposite could occur as well.

  • TTPB: Yocket posters are all MEng, which has slightly lesser requirements than the MS CS. Not sure which one you applied for. Cornell's MS CS is incredibly hard to get into, their requirements are pretty crazy. I heard their overall batch size last year was 14 students.

  • I notice some more acceptances are out. People on yocket have gotten in with 312 and 320 GREs. I know GRE isn't the only criterion, but I have a 335 GRE, a 9.5/10 GPA from a decent Indian University, 116 TOEFL, an international conference review publication, a national conference best presentation award, two other research experiences, a bunch of decent ML/AI projects, two software engineering and one data science internships. I don't quite understand what colleges want. Rejected by Toronto, Princeton, UCB, Stanford, ETH, CU Boulder (seriously?), Austin, UIUC and a bunch of others. Columbia interviewed me in February and are ghosting me since then, and Amherst is still stuck on review.

  • To poster below: Thank you so much for your reply! I think I understand now. I was trying to find master of science program, but the master program they provide in structural track is MEng. How foolish I am, ha!
