  • After my 2 long comments yesterday with admits in OSU and then Purdue, got the third one for PMP at WiscMad. Not bad given that not even a handful got WiscMad MS CS (with aid option) and PMP is an excellent substitute for the same. Not sure how to choose between Purdue and PMP WM, though might end up on the former. UNC with hardly any seats gave the cold shoulder. Not bad for me with 11 applications to have 3 admits, 6 rejects and 2 waiting. One Penn likely to get, other UCSD GOK. The way UCSD which is the standard place even the low ranks from my college get, year after year, has neither rejected me nor accepted me, is rather funny. Was in the bottom of the LIFO stack having tried in Oct 20. Will wait but UCSD does not excite me any longer even a bit and Penn will add to the OSU like trophies which I wont carry. So very happy with Purdue and WM but not sure how to chose. All my admits have happened in past 9 days and I have waited since Oct 15 2020 for the same. WORTH THE WAIT. All the best to the others.

  • Someone asked for an admitted student to post their stats, so I thought I'd post mine. Reading through who has been rejected, I am amazed I got in. I feel very lucky, and I hope that you all get good offers from other schools :) I go to a very non-prestigious or selective (but still nice!) state school and my undergrad is in computer science. I have a 3.877 GPA, have been doing research in AI/ML for two years with an awesome professor, and am co-authored on three publications in social network modeling, one of which was also accepted at a AAAI conference. I also work as a grader for my uni's AI course (both this semester and last). I do have some unique aspects to my personal history that might've helped my application as well; I started college when I was 16 and have a lot of artistic pursuits on my resume. Two of my rec letters were from CS faculty at my school, and the third was from a creative writing instructor I am very close to. Best of luck to everyone this season! Oh, and I didn't take the GRE! Actually, I wasn't going to apply to grad school in CS until they decided to waive the GRE--I took the ACT five times in high school because I'm neurotic, and quite honestly, I can't make myself go through standardized testing again.

  • Well they seem to have very little seats left after Covid related deferral. So they are almost not taking anyone for MS. Of course that means you are paying application fees to fund the college, but that is the truth with many colleges who seek to have 1000 applicants for 100 seats to create the impression of 10% admittance, sometimes even encouraging applicants with good GRE scores to apply for free. Wisconsin on the other hand charges for MS and separately for PMP.
