I also have no idea what role the interviews play in admission. And they seem not strictly standardized as their time range from 15min to 30min. Some are pretty formal some are not. Any one with more insights please share.

But I am not sure if it is because the POIs already know them (like my source, or Stanford undergrad/grad), or simply because their profiles are just too good.

I am just saying that if you have interview, you should be in the final stage so there is a great chance you get admitted. It's also possible that you're on the shortlist but just not interviewed :)

About the stat, my friend also mentioned that it's in the final stage of interviews. Around 18-20% people have made it to the final round and 5% people will get an offer, which means if you get to the interview stage, you have 28-30% chance of getting in.
I transformed the specific numbers I heard into ratios so the numbers should be reliable. That's all I can tell for now :)

At this point, I'm just not going to believe in any gossips and just wait. People you should do that too, and just wait until your mails give you something.
