got rejected from direct doctorate

GPA 1.07/1 with 160 ECTS finished in 4 semesters at the time of the application. 2 faang internships, no research experience. LoRs from professors I'm good friends with and that know me well, but they're relatively new to the academia.

1.3/1.0 from a well-known German university, 2 prestigious scholarships, teaching and research experience

Status appears as "decided - ESOP requested"

GPA 1.02/1.0 - BSc from University of Technology in Austria - 1 strong and 1 exceptional LoR - teaching experience

Two generic LoR. One internship at a semi-reputable research institute. One internship as a Software Engineer. Some research experience, bu no papers.

Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, 1 good internship and 3+ years of SWE related work experience.

e-mail said to check the portal; portal had a semi-generic rejection letter.

Didn't apply for ESOP. EE @ IITK. 1.5 years work ex at big tech.

Applied to the direct Ph.D. program. After the submission of the application documents, the admission staff reached out for some clarification about the study gap in the CV. addressed those and resubmitted. Today I got a response in the website saying I did not fulfill the admission criteria. :)

Good LoRs. I was writing my motivation letter with my supervisor and, in my mind, made it almost perfect. Unfortunately, that is almost all. No big publications and no big internships. Also not ideal GPA (ruined my first semester). Not too surprised, but at least tried.

Applied to DD, rejected for both, DD and MSc.

2 years of experience as SWE, top 3 german university, one good and one very strong LoRec (did his PhD at ETH), sadly sucky GPA because I cared more about partying than grades during undergrad
