  • Does anyone know when the deadline is for admitted students to accept the offer (if there is one)? I'm still waiting as well.

  • To those waitlisted, did anyone get their results back? Admitted students are supposed to choose their options by 15 June right?

  • TTPB: You can still apply for the Spring 2021 application cycle if you did not get into the Fall 2020 cohort. It only makes sense if you have made significant changes to your application.

  • Does anyone know if you do not get into the Fall cohort, whether you could apply for Spring 2021 in October?

  • Everyone in the dept. is overwhelmed with the planning for the upcoming academic year. Maybe that is why they haven't responded back. They can't tell you anything meaningful because the school hasn't decided anything yet. At best, they can give you something vague like "all results will be sent by the next few weeks." If that is what you want to hear, you know it already; they will send the results eventually. Forget about admissions for a moment; there is a lot to settle before the Fall semester starts to ensure smooth functioning of the grad and undergrad programs. I guess if you really want to join Columbia, you can wait a little longer. They will inform you well before the fall semester starts. All the best!

  • TTPB: I completely agree. I have sent emails to the ms admissions email address with no response. While it is expected for decisions to take longer, the lack of transparency with the longer timeline is unwarranted.

  • Decisions take a long time due to Covid-19 is perfectly understandable. However, there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE to provide no update and ignore our inquiry emails. If the decision takes longer than usual given the current situation, just tell us so! I am sure people would understand. All they need to do is to say something. The way they ignored us shows no respect and compassion for people who are also going through this difficult time.

  • High GPA from a reputable german University. No GRE. Medicore recommendation letters and motivation letter. Seems like they mostly care about grades and having the correct courses.

  • Applied in October 2019, and my application is still in pending status. Engineering undergrad with a 4.0 gpa from the top university in Florida, 2 internships, and 2 years of work experience in the engineering field. Got into two other Ivy Leagues, but Columbia is my top pick. I think this is ridiculous. Columbia is not respecting their applicants by not giving them a timeline or an update on when they should be expecting to hear back.

  • COVID-19 is a developing situation and things change rapidly. There are a lot of things at play that influences when the admission decisions go out. The application review process must have completed a long time ago (No need to change your application now). There is a chance that some more students will be admitted in the coming weeks. But like I had said earlier, everyone needs to wait till the school makes a decision. People who have decided to choose other schools should celebrate and move on. All the best!

  • Completely agree. This is utterly hideous behavior from such a reputed university. Although I have decided to accept admit from another university, I deserve a decision(doesn't matter what). It's completely disrespectful to students to have to wait for more than 5 months for a decision. Covid-19 is no more an excuse as every other university has finished sending out the decisions and are already planning their Fall 2020 semester amidst the chaos. It looks like all that Columbia cared about is 85$ application fees. Byproduct of capitalism.

  • I agree with the post below. I think it's completely disrespectful to tell applicants that they hope to have some information by the following week then go completely silent for the next 3 weeks. Regardless of the COVID situation, they should give us at least an update on how our applications are being reviewed...Anything?! What annoys me the most is actually the fact that I can still update my application, like really?!
ETH ZürichComputer Science, Masters (F20)Rejected via E-mail on 5 Jun 2020 I6 Jun 2020
  • Very disappointed, coming from a top uni in Europe with good grades but from EE degree. I’ve given so much time to the application and research on ETH Zurich only to get the usual rejection email is harsh.

  • Got the admission offer at portal first. Requested a deferral. More likely to be approved. After research, I would recommend everyone to take a look at the data by googling 'GMU OIPS Data Report 2016 yumpu' (Repeat the same for 2017, 2018; Refer page 12). After reaching out to certain alumni - they stressed on some predatory practices being followed for tuition fees and intentionally raising standards of CS583 to retain existing graduates for an extended duration.

After reaching out to certain alumni - they stressed on predatory practices being followed and advised to take caution as visas are on rampant denials for stellar profiles. For others, Please take a look at the following links and the decrease in the international student population per country basis. • A followup on my last post: How many of you (accepted or waiting) are willing to pay the full tuition for online classes in Fall 2020? My last post: Columbia is working on the logistics of the next academic year (2020-2021). There are multiple plans that have been proposed so far but the engineering school (and CS department) has not taken a decision. Most likely a decision will be made by the end of June (Depending on the COVID-19 situation then) and everyone will hear back about their application status. As of now, there is a very high chance that classes will be held online in Fall 2020 (for incoming students). I hope this helps. All the best!

Only 1 year worth of full time experience. Learned to program in R and Python in my free-time/ on the job, and I have some GitHub projects (nothing big though).
