  • I'm an international student. I have talked to someone of my friends here and w only few of them received interview request? If they are sorting out people with foreign names, then shouldn't all the international students be receiving interview request?
Columbia UniversityComputer Science, Masters (F19)Other via Other on 20 Feb 2019 O19 Feb 2019
  • Exactly! International students pay hefty amount for TOEFL just to evaluate English speaking skills. Taking interview just to weed out international students with poor English doesn't make any sense. Does the interview request implies that we are shortlisted for the second round?
Columbia UniversityComputer Science, Masters (F19)Other via Other on 20 Feb 2019 O19 Feb 2019
  • The post below, with no offense, may I ask if your name sounds like a foreigner? It that possible that they consider you as a international student by accident? I don't think they can learn anything but speaking ability from the digital interview.

  • The online interviews are not only for international students. I am American and received a request for an interview. I'm a native English speaker with perfect/near-perfect verbal and writing scores on the GRE and SAT, so I doubt the purpose is to weed out students with poor English.
