  • I think that movements in these universities' waiting list can trigger a lot of movement in top 20 universities. I guess that after the open houses, we should expect more movements in those universities. Anyone knows when these universities' open houses are (were)?

  • Hi everybody. One important point is that there is a chain when someone rejects an offer. Say that person A is admitted both at MIT and Harvard. When A rejects Harvard offer, person B who is on the waiting list of Harvard is picked up. As B is now accepted in Harvard, he rejects his Stanford offer. This chain can potentially continue to very low ranking universities. Therefore, it is genuinely helpful if those who are admitted at high ranking universities decline their less preferred offers. Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone in the rest of the admissions process.

  • Out of the universities you mention I think the last visit day is MIT, ending on April 1st. So, there will be potentially more movement after that, which should trickle down to all top 20 universities (and maybe even beyond). Be patient and don't give up hope!

NYU, Yale, Harvard, UPENN, Northwestern, Stanford, UC BerkeleyEconomics, PhD (F17)Rejected via E-mail on 3 Mar 2017 I3 Mar 2017
  • With a master degree, almost full GPA for the advanced math and economics courses, very strong RLs, publication in Tier 1.5 journal (GEB). Applicants this year are holy competitive... So sad...
Princeton University, Yale UniversityEconomics, PhD (F21)Accepted via Other on 19 Feb 2021 O19 Feb 2021
  • I got accepted into both programs and asked them how many students they admitted. Princeton accepted exactly 50 students, and Yale accepted slightly more than 50. That is a 33% drop from roughly 75 admits in the previous year. There could be a slight decrease in cohort size, but not much, so that means there might be a slightly higher probability of being accepted off the waitlist. However, given the special situation of this year (especially Harvard only admitting 1/4 of class size), I suspect the yield rate for both schools would be higher. Hope that helps!
