Graduate School Admission Results

Did my undergrad study(major in CS) at a UC. I have two strong LoRs from two (UCSD alumni) tenured Professors(one obtained a Ph.D. degree from UCSD, one did his Postdoc research and served as a Research Faculty at UCSD for more than 5 years) and one strong LoR from a rising star assistant professor. Still got rejected. I met lots of students with lower GPA/weaker background(or even majored in other majors during undergrad) who got accepted from UCSD. So it seems a little bit weird to me that I get rejected.

How many were accepted at all?

TTPB: I'm the person below who has a 3.9+ GPA and still got rejected by UCSD, and yeah I also got rejected by GaTech and was waitlisted by UCLA. Not sure if they value GPA or GRE that much or if I was just unlucky. I do agree that future applicants should be careful applying to MS CS programs at these three schools as they get more competitive each year.

Publications greater than 7. Multiple research internships. Strong lors and sop. Thought I would get this. All round consideration of profile is just a hoax. All they do is sort by cpga and gre or teofl scores. Doesn't value entire profile. All universities care is about application money. Strong advice to future applicants don't apply to California and gatech unless you have cgpa > 8.5. Wastage of money. I will show what iam capable of in terms of research than your admitted students

Cs graduate, 7 months research experience at a full-time job as a data scientist, grad project on NLP. I was interested in specializing in NLP.

The worst decision to apply here!! UCSD thinks of itself as close to CMU, Stanford and seems to admit people with only stellar profiles.

From a top 20 CS school in the U.S. with 3.9+ GPA and good GRE, strong recommendation letters from research advisors, have no idea why I got rejected. Got better offers anyway.

Sucks. Just waiting for Maryland and USC now.

Good luck to those who were accepted. Don't see the point in them accepting people with profiles that get accepted by CMU and the likes, because those guys would choose CMU over this.

Looks like around this date last year was the mass rejection wave. And on 9th April 2020 a lot of people talked about their checklist disappearing. Checked gradcafe. Let's be mentally prepared for the replay. Good luck. UCSD will someday learn from their mistakes the hard way.

Just checked my application portal. They have now removed the application checklist from my portal too. I am pretty sure they are now clearing up their database. Bracing for rejection now.

After 8 rejections, this is my last hope. Please reject your offers at the earliest if you have decided on it.

Still waiting for a decision on my MSCS application. If you have an acceptance and dont plan to attend, please decline so that people like me have a shot at getting in. I haven't received any acceptances so far.

TTPB: I sure hope those folks read your post, while sitting on admits from Cornell, Purdue, GA Tech, UC Berkeley and still waiting to decide if they choose accept their USC admit lol. When a lot of us would accept USC in a heartbeat.
