Graduate School Admission Results

No interview so expected...still stings though.

Can anyone shed some light on what's going on? I know some people were contacted for interviews, lots were rejected. If you haven't heard anything, including for an interview, does that mean you're toast?

To poster below: interviews were held for the past two weeks, and I'm fairly sure the acceptances & wait list were pulled from the pool of interviewees. I hope that helps and good luck with everything!!

To the posted below: do you know if ALL interview requests went out today, or is there hope for the rest of us?

Director of Graduate Studies called me yesterday and sent the offer letter via email.

Curt email about how many applicants there were and not to reach out to faculty regarding specific reasons for rejection.

posted on website:Our admissions committee has extended interview invitations to everyone whom we anticipate interviewing, and we have now received confirmation of receipt from all of them. We will most likely admit from this pool of applicants, but are not sending out final admissions decisions to the rest of the applicants in case the committee decides to extend interview invitations to a few more applicants. We expect to email final notifications to those who were not interviewed by March 9.

GPA is MA. No interview for me, so I assume rejection at this point. Congrats to those interviewing and admitted! 1a/1r/0w/9p

It is expectd but I still wanna cry

Generic email from Director of Graduate Studies and Academic Administrator (STS): "We are sorry to inform you that we will not be able to offer you admission to the doctoral program in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology and Society (HASTS) at MIT. This year we received 147 applications and we only could only grant interviews to 12% of the applicants for an even smaller number of slots. Please note that the committee is unable to provide feedback on individual applications. Your application was given careful consideration and although we are not able to offer you admission, the committee would like to thank you for your interest in the program and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. "

Six out of 8 applications rejected so far. I knew it was a long shot on account of my age. To all those accepted into *any* sociology program, whether first choice or not: Please make your time and training count, for yourself and for society. The number of jobs that can support a middle-class lifestyle and allow one to grow intellectually have fallen precipitously even in the 20 years since I received my BA from Columbia. Hiring practices are becoming dumber. The squeeze grows ever tighter. So take the skills and knowledge and convert them to real-world influence. Effect change. Ave, morituri te salutant.
