Received notification yesterday around 8p EST. $5k fellowship + $13k TA-ship. Did two different 2-year predocs (Fed and top Econ/finance department). Graduated at top of my class at top-20 LAC. A in real analysis from top-5 math department. 3.97 cgpa and 3.96 math gpa (including grad-level math classes). Received rejections to T15 PhD programs in both economics and business. Heartbroken so looking at master's programs abroad to get a break from US admissions and I've heard the quality (and price) is better there. Hoping to become more competitive for PhD programs with a master's research project (and maybe even a third predoc) under my belt and will reapply in 1-2 years. Deciding between UBC and offers from schools in England. Good luck to everyone and don't give up! Not meeting my PhD admission targets after being an RA at the top institutions in the freakin' world for 4 years (4 years!!!!) was a huge setback, but the only thing we can do is move forward. If an economics PhD is truly your dream/goal, then find a way to make it happen, even if it means doing a master's degree or having to spend an extra year or two improving your background. All my letter writers have been very surprised by the outcomes but are very supportive in helping me achieve my goals.
