TBP: It's a tough decision, but I am also inclining to MIT. The placement is generally better (at least in my field).

Full tuition waiver + stipend from 2 year (12.000E), 3-4 year(17.000E) and 5-6 year(22.000E). Very excited!!!

TPB: Only waitlisted at Harvard, but I'm most likely going to withdraw my name from the waitlist b/c I prefer MIT/Stanford over Harvard given my research interests.

I have been admitted to the MASE, but did not receive any information about the funding.

TPB: UChicago is targeting a class size of 23, not sure how that compares to previous years. As with Stanford, they said in their waitlist letter that they were more cautious with admits this year and anticipated using the waitlist.

To Harvard / MIT cross admits: which one are you leaning toward?

TPB: To corroborate the previous post, the exact language was "Due to a university-wide policy, we were only able to admit around a quarter of our usual class size this year". On the other schools, I don't think that Stanford's target cohort size was cut. During the visit day, which included waitlisted candidates, the faculty said that they had to waitlist more candidates than usual b/c the university wanted to avoid admitting too many people. They never said that they wanted a smaller total cohort. Looking into the claim about MIT's cohort size. I don't know anything about Chicago though.

TPB: What exactly is UPF's normal PhD policy? Beyond the fact that funding is quite low, I'm surprised they make you attend an MSc and an MRes... I already have an MSc and this makes the program 6 years instead of 5, with low funding... Also, is the stipend taxed normally? I'm not sure how it works in spain!

TPB: No. They usually ask tuition for the first year only - and a good bunch of their PhD track students normally get their tuition (some partially, some completely) waived. UPF used to fund their PhD students from 2nd year onwards. In fact, this is the first year UPF admits its PhD students through a separate admissions process. You must be completely out of your mind to say "This is what UPF does every year" whilst referring to the year UPF reformed its PhD process in its entirety. Get your facts straight before you rant online.
