Graduate School Admission Results

TBP: I was interviewed and attended the open house but have not yet received an offer. Hoping to get one soon because I really like the program but I think they are moving very slowly this year.

Is there anyone who has not received an offer from U Pittd although he/she too?

TBP: Thanks for promptly declining. Did they say anything you can share about how many spots they have left or how they're making offers? I'm still on the WL, will probably accept an offer so I'm pretty anxious.

Emailed to the coordinator and ask about the status. Got replied that I am not rejected but on the waitlist. if anything has some offers strictly better than the USCS, please decline it. Also, I have something offers are dominated by UCSC, so if I could be off my waitlist, I will quickly decline my offers to reach a benign cycle. It depends on your, the top predators in the ecosystem. Thank you

TPB: interesting so I guess there's still some implicit waitlist then. The email I got on 3.18 is this: “Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in our program. At this time we can let you know we have sent out most of our admission and waitlist decisions to those we are interested in. You should receive an official decision soon.”

TPB: I was Teacher Assistant during my PhD program. However, I took TOEFL and I got 115.

[NOT WL]. TPB: (1) Regarding NYU, I sent that email and got this: "Thanks so much for reaching out and for your interest in our program. While we are not yet ready to release your decision, we can let you know that many of our admission and waitlist offers have already gone out. We hope to be back to you with a final decision soon." (2) On UPenn: I was waitlisted a couple of weeks ago. They asked me two questions: (i) Do I have external funding? (ii) Do I still want to attend even if I don't get funding from them? I would say that you should email them if you have/can get external funding, otherwise be prepared to pay upwards of 70k USD during your first year. My feeling is that they waitlisted a lot of people just to speculate on external funding. (I was sent this, though: "Fortunately for us, many of our top-ranked candidates have outside scholarships that cover all these expenses."). Good luck

[not WL] TPB: The deal with rankings is that they don't usually say a lot. Try and evaluate where you think you will feel supported the best over the next 4-5 years. If it were up to me, I would go to UC based on my research interests, my perception of placement, and the better climate--but that's me! I think that if you applied to both programs, then there's a high chance that one dominates the other, but maybe you're just feeling anxious to make the choice. You've been admitted and that's really cool. Now you're free to choose the program you WANT, so just go for it! I've visited both Riverside and Columbia and are really cool places. You'll be fine either way.

Thanks for the guy who declined his/her offer from Syracuse. I received 26k funding from Syracuse (already was in their waitlist). I declined my fully funded offer from Oklahoma University. I was also high in the waitlist of University of Houston, University of Georgia and UC Riverside and Iowa State and I notified them to drop me from the waitlist, hope these help other applicants and clear the market sooner. In terms of my CV, I am a second year PhD student at SUNY Binghamton (reported GPA is during my PhD courses). 1 journal paper, great recommendation letters specially from professor Subal Kumbhakar.

(not an interview) TBP: I e-mailed them several days ago and got this: We have started to send out acceptance and rejections, but still have a handful of applications that are going through the final review process. If you haven't heard from us, chances are, your application is in its final review stage. We received a large number of applications this year, and thus, require the time to thoroughly review each applications. Unfortunately, we do not have a timeline as to when we will be able to provide final decisions for all our applicants. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. I honestly don't know what they are thinking...:(

Not WL. What is going on UCLA? Is there anyone who contacted to them? I didn't heard anything from them. No update on web. Is it IR or WL?
