Graduate School Admission Results

I was just trying to be sarcastic but maybe it seemed serious, so I apologize for increasing your anxiety. I don't actually think that anyone's applications are that bad, although it is a reality that sometimes universities just do not get back to you (Stanford is good about replying to applications though.) This is my second year applying, so anyone who doesn't get into grad school your first time, just know that you aren't alone and to just work harder for next year. So many of the best and most intelligent applicants don't get into the top schools because of how competitive it is. Good luck.

Have you not heard? The physics god that applied only to Stanford had such good recs from such famous recommenders that Stanford just offered him dept chair straight away

TTPB: Thanks for your encouraging words during these tough times. I appreciate your childlike innocence, but sadly we will all soon be faced with the pressures of the real world where, increasingly, name and prestige mean everything while hard work and talent mean very little. Although it's probably better to have hope on a community-wide scale, I unfortunately think it's more natural for each individual to resort to being realistic on their own.

Any news from QI/QC? Saw two offers past weeks. What is sub-field? Were those official from the admission office or unofficial ones from Profs?

Applied for hep-th/gr-qc. The email said that they received over 500 applicants.

Email to check portal. Formerly waitlisted in January. Generic rejection letter. CMX, have better offers elsewhere so I don't mind.

Has anyone heard back from Oxford after their interviews? Any idea if they send rejection emails as well? Especially people who applied in CMP

Jesus people, take it easy. This isn't the end of anyone's life - worst case scenario, just apply to more places next year :-) The top schools are extremely competitive, and not getting into one does NOT mean that you aren't very capable of succeeding in physics.

Also no word from Stanford today for me. Perhaps our applications were just so bad and they didn't want to waste the effort on sending rejection emails? :(

Just want to kms. 5 years of CMX, HEP-th, and computational. 2 papers in high profile journals and a thesis. Plus great rec letters.
