email to check portal. not surprised, and still hopeful since I already have one acceptance and have interviewed at two others. Congrats to everyone who got in!

A generic email of rejection. I did my best and prepared a sophisticated dossier to apply for this dream program. BTW, very few places and a large pool of excellent candidates. I didn't get upset or surprised as I was not called for an interview. Congrats to all those who got in!

Received an email to check the portal. Not a good match with the department so no hard feelings. Saw this coming because I didn't the interview.

I received an e-mail to check my portal. The rejection wasn't unexpected, as the department wasn't a great fit by any stretch of the imagination. The programs I'm a best fit for (besides UIUC, who accepted me with a very generous offer) have yet to get back to me, but 1A/5R/0W/9P. Fingers crossed.

Received an informal email from the DGS.

Received an e-mail from my POI, Invited to the interview in early February. Can't believe. No GRE, three normal LORs and not a top GPA!

Absolutely devastated. Working on BOTH films and literatures have always been my intellectual ambition. MUST find a way to turn this into reality.

Apparently COVID has forced most programmes to drastically reduce their cohorts this year. Congratulations to those who got accepted! In case the following info is useful, I'm a student at Cambridge Uni, completing a Masters in Comp Lit. I hold a Liberal Arts degree from Durham Uni (UK), where I graduated as #1 of my cohort and top of the Faculty of Humanities. I spent a year studying Comp Lit at the Sorbonne. 3 languages to native speaker fluency. 1 essay published. 1 book co-written. 4 international conferences. Interests: Renaissance epic, migrations in literature, classical reception, intellectual history, philosophy, the visual arts and literature I hope most of us are luckier next time!

Did not get an interview, knew this was coming, and am glad it's finally here. But still frustrated at those two lines of portal email that weren't even from the dept. Could they at least pretend to care about their applicants?
