We regret to notify you that we could not bring a favorable decision regarding your application for PhD studies with our department. We had an extremely large pool of applicants, many of whom - just like yourself - are very talented and qualified individuals. However, our resources are limited and the competition was very stiff. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. So sad :(

Less seats they said as the reason for rejection.

The program did not require any exam scores, but did want GPA, letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose. I thought I had a pretty damn strong application, verified by professors, but I didn't even get to interview stage. I guess it really is quite competitive. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Top 5 public(UC) with 3.8 major GPA in math. Took a graduate class in the subfield I wanted to study. Two relatively famous letter writers. Interview was pretty technical and asked specific questions on the area I wanted to focus in.

Had the interview yesterday, which was not rigorous at all. Great program, but no funding.

Was an exchange student at UofT and got very good grades there. Thought the call was an interview but really was a chat asking what type of internships I wanted. Official offer letter on the way.

To the post about UofT master's program, I am in exactly the same situation, however, I am still waiting for the decision, could you please define what "good grades" is for you? Thanks.

To the MASc Applied Computing poster below: Can you share your profile please? What is your GPA/W.Exp./any publications..etc? I have seen people with diverse backgrounds and higher GPAs getting rejected, while others with relatively lower GPA's receiving admission. I'm not pointing at you don't get me wrong, but I want to get a clear idea of the "Selection Criteria" Myself: Female, GPA 3.8 from USA, 2 years of work experience at Microsoft (UK), and 4 months internship at IBM, 2 national scholarships , no publications. And I have been wait-listed!
