Graduate School Admission Results

Just got an email from Indiana talking about funding. It was honestly laughable what they said. The stipend is $19,000 and they try to justify it by going " Oh, that is the equivalent to blah blah blah in San Francisco". $19,000 ain't a lot where ever you go. That is a very hard number to live off if you are by yourself. I will not go here if this is indicative of the value Indiana places on their grad students.

Full funding (5 yrs) + health insurance

"Our Admissions and Fellowships Committee has reviewed all the materials in your application for admission to our graduate program in English, and I am sorry to have to write that we shall be unable to admit you. We had far more talented applicants this year than we could admit to the program, which required very tough decisions. We are grateful, however, for your interest in Indiana University and wish you well in the future."

Absolutely elated, first acceptance and a school at the top of my list! Very kind phone call from DGS followed by formal offer letter via email. After two rejections from comparable universities, I was not holding out much hope. A couple of presentations under my belt, but no publications other than my undergrad thesis (and upcoming MA thesis). 1A/2R, more pending. MA GPA 4.0.

Nice rejection from the DGS. Expected since acceptances started going out over a week ago.

GPA is MA. Received a kind and enthusiastic email. 40% more applicants than last year!
