Really thought I was a good fit. Being from Latin America is such a big hurdle. People with access to the research world during their undergrad don't know how good they have it.

TTPB: Oh whoops, just noticed you're comparing the ITHACA Meng and not Cornell Tech Meng. Can't help much there, I don't know much about the Ithaca one and didn't apply to it. The comparison below is for Cornell Tech Meng for anyone else interested.

TTPB: I was accepted to the Connective Media program and I also had a hard time choosing between the two. The biggest difference is the length as you mentioned. The MEng program is 9 months with no option to extend. This means you'll be looking for a full time role as soon as you start with no internship opportunities. The CM program is 2 years and obviously has an internship opportunity which is a HUGE pro as you can imagine. Further, the CM programs lets you take a ton of CS courses and you'll probably end with around 2x times CS credits as an MEng student. Also, the cost can be alleviated somewhat via scholarship. I received a $30,000 scholarship and I know others have received up to $50,0000. So for me, since I think internship is extremely important, the CM program was a no-brainer.

I'm a little confused about enrolling in MEng CS (Ithaca) and MS Connective Media (Cornell Tech), are there any obvious pros/cons? CM is very expensive but is an amazing program. While MEng is also great, its a 9 month course and is really fast paced.

What a kind(?) and strange rejection letter! I would feel bitter if I weren't already accepted into my top-2 preference program. Now I can move on without looking back at Cornell :)

Area AI/ML. 3.97 gpa, 166V, 169Q, 5.0A, math and CS dual degrees from top 20 US university, 3 years research, previous pubs, current pubs submitted, received national undergrad awards. Anyone think it's funny how AI is supposed to be encouraged this year for NSF GRFP applications, but it's almost impossible to get accepted into a grad program in AI?? People are going to get the fellowship but not be able to use it anywhere. Gotta laugh at this brutal year.

4.0 undergrad GPA, GRE 165/170/5.0 (Q/V/AW). Area: ML. Several publications but mostly in applied venues. Got into two other top 10-ish schools though so I'm happy. Question: I see "generic rejection email" mentioned on here a lot. Is there ever a non-generic rejection email? They all say the same thing—due to the high number of applications/COVID, we had to reject many qualified applicants, best future wishes, blah blah. Can you actually infer anything from these messages about how close you were?
